CBCT Compliance FAQ
Yes. Under NYS Section 16.65 (effective July 22, 2026), dental practices need a licensed medical physicist for annual CBCT testing (QC), QA program development, and acceptance testing. Accreditation through a nationally recognized program is also required, with a compliance deadline of January 22, 2028 (18 months for practices new to CBCT). This is a new requirement layered on top of the existing 5-year CRESO inspection cycle, not a replacement for it — adding far more frequent oversight and documentation alongside what's already mandated.
